Review Summary

If you have something to say about this app and make own review – write me. Become a critic

There are several calculator apps on the App Store, but none more ubiquitous than The Calculator. This is an app that allows you to work on every basic calculation that you can think of. Therefore, you can use it for your everyday needs, such as working out a quick bill. It also contains a hidden scientific mode for advanced applications like engineering or AP Math.

Design 9/10

The Calculator is visually simple in its design. The orange theme dominates most of the app which sets it apart from other calculator apps. The main output window is located at the top of the screen, with a dominant black theme. However, you can customize the background to your own preferences from 70 preselect designs. The buttons are large enough for you to easily tap on and move around. You can select your preferred button style. Notation style on the calculator is scientific, although you can choose your preferred style. The app allows you to split view if you need to multitask, for example, read quantities off an invoice.

Functionality 9/10

The Calculator app comes with all the basic calculator functions such as multiplication, addition, subtraction, and percentages. However, it also offers other advanced operators such as a currency converter and a fraction mode in which you can manipulate non-integers without limiting yourself to floating point numbers. There is also a scientific mode which is seemingly hidden from normal view but which you can easily activate by switching to landscape. Once you have disabled the rotation lock on your phone, you can switch to this mode. You’ll be able to view and manipulate functions such as exponents, logarithms, trigonometry, and square roots.

The Calculator has a neat feature which allows you to clear erroneous entries from the command window by swiping left. Other advancements include being able to shift your output between degrees and radians and choosing your decimal notation.

Ease of Use 9/10

The Calculator is easy to deploy and use, and you can get used to this app just as easily as to your normal calculator. The interface is easy to interact with, and the buttons are large enough to read and enter inputs with. The app offers an entire range of operators that you would need for routine and scientific functions such as cubic exponents, square roots, logarithms, trigonometrical sines and cosines, etc. However, you won’t be able to use graphing functions here. The app occasionally suffers bugs which make it freeze or glitch out. It is also quite slow on iOS 11.1.

The Calculator is only designed and optimized for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) running on iOS 8.0 later, and it’s glitchy on iOS 11. Unfortunately, this particular calculator app is not available for Android or Windows devices.

Final Opinion

This is more than just a basic calculator. It allows you to carry out every function that you may need and is also useful for extended use such as for complex logarithmic and trigonometrical assignments. The app does seem to suffer occasional glitches which the developers seem reluctant to solve.
